HOW WE BUILT OUR CUSTOM MIXING CONSOLE & MASTERED THIS LIVE ALBUM

1. WHY RECORDING A 7-PIECE LIVE BAND IS NORMALLY SO DIFFICULT
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
When you listen to a studio album, each musician is usually recorded in a
separate soundproof booth or one instrument at a time. A live Special Blend
concert is the exact opposite—seven performers (Brian, Rob, Mayo, David, Dan,
Paul, and Mike) are on stage together with seven open vocal microphones just a
few feet apart from acoustic guitars, mandolin, blues harmonica, stage keys,
electric bass, and drums.
In a standard live board recording, five or six idle vocal mics act like open
room microphones, pouring phase-delayed reflections into the vocal bus and
making lead vocals sound hollow or washed out.
2. HOW WE EXPANDED 10 STAGE LINES INTO 13 DEDICATED STUDIO CHANNELS
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
On stage, we captured 10 discrete digital tracks on a Zoom LiveTrak L-12 at
48,000 Hz / 24-bit resolution. Our custom Studio-12 64-bit Python DSP engine
expands those 10 inputs into 13 dedicated mixing channels:
* CH 1–7: Dedicated Vocal Strips for Brian, Rob, Mayo, David, Dan, Paul & Mike
* CH 8: Paul's Blues Harmonica (surgically split from Paul's vocal mic)
* CH 9: Guitars Left Body (warm 12-string & rhythm guitar body)
* CH 10: Mandolin Right Chime (phase-aligned stereo acoustic/mandolin split)
* CH 11: Virtual Stage Keys (extracted from David's channel with +6.5 dB vocal ducking)
* CH 12: Virtual Stage Drums (reconstructed 3-band kick, snare & tambourine transients)
* CH 13: Mike's B-15 Electric Bass (with 45ms kick-to-bass subwoofer sidechain)
3. WHAT MAKES THE STUDIO-12 ENGINE SPECIAL
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
* Array-Wide Bleed Suppression & Phrase-Continuous Vocal Bridge:
Comparing all 7 vocal mics simultaneously in 24 human-hearing (ERB) bands,
non-singing mics stay quietly tucked while active singers get a smooth
750ms hold + 450ms Gaussian release bridge so strumming your own guitar or
playing drums never chops a lyric syllable.
* 3-Role Dynamic Vocal Stage (Center Lead, Wide Velvet Harmony & Bass Pocket):
Lead singers sit dead-center with condenser clarity; backup harmonies pan
into a wide velvet bed with 1/sqrt(N) choir balancing; and low bass-harmony
anchors ("The Lion Sleeps Tonight", "Haunted House", "The Candy Man") lock
into a dedicated 95–240 Hz Bass Pocket.
* 100% Natural Voices (Zero Autotune Warble) & -13.60 LUFS Album Leveling:
All 21 songs are 100% natural live voices mastered to a unified -13.60 LUFS
with zero digital clipping across studio, car, TV, and mobile profiles.
